Sony were heading to the PAX East 2020 with quite the lineup of playable Playstation 4 games, however they have recently announced the decision to now miss the convention. This is due to the recent concerns over COVID-19 or Coronavirus.
They released a statement on the Playstation Blog expressing the decision was “the safest option” and while “disappointed to cancel” felt it was in the best interest.
Sony were going to allow participants to play The Last of Us Part II. Other games to be shown included MediaMolecules’s Dreams, Marvel’s Iron Man VR, Nioh 2, Doom Eternal, Spelunky and more.
Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”). We felt this was the safest option as the situation is changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation in this event, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.
This isn’t the only event they have decided to miss out on, news today also shared that Sony will also be absent from upcoming Game Developers Conference. According to Gamesindustry.biz Sony released a statement reiterating the same concerns for health and safety, but also due to the “global travel restrictions” which are now causing impact.
Facebook Gaming/Oculus have also decided to pull out of GDC, but will still be sharing a digital announcement during the event.
