It’s finally happening – the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series is coming to Switch, and it’s about bloomin’ time! We’re pretty darn excited here. The first six Final Fantasy games on the NES and SNES – Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, V, and VI – on a Nintendo console for the first time since Final Fantasy VI's release on the Wii Virtual Console in 2011 (or its inclusion on the SNES Mini in 2017)? Yes, please.
On the series’ big 35th anniversary, Square Enix gave us what we’ve been begging for about 18 months. To say some of these games are the most beloved entries in the series is a bit of an understatement – and Final Fantasy III’s NES version has never seen a proper official localisation. The announcement of these ports is a cause for celebration and caps off a year which has seen Square Enix throw its support behind the Switch.
