Demon’s Souls State of Play Shares Character Creation, Gameplay Mechanics and More

In the latest 12 minute video SIE Worldwide Studios Creative Director Gavin Moore dives into development and gameplay for the Demon’s Souls Remake.

The video starts with previewing character creation which was earlier revealed with screenshots, but here we see it in action. Then is jumps right into gameplay at the Gates of Boletaria, showing some of the gameplay mechanics including how stamina works with attacks, blocking and dodging. He also warns players will need to be wary of their own position in relation to the enemy. While the enemy attack patterns and movements are the same as the original, it gets a framerate upgrade, now running at 60FPS.

Players can opt for performance mode, which features 60FPS and dynamic 4K resolution, or run cinematic mode which has native 4K and runs at 30FPS. However according to Digital Foundry, the game actually runs closer to 1440p 60FPS.

The video goes on to show some of the iconic locations and even some of the most memorable bosses which includes the Flamelurker. While we have seen previously the boss, this is the first time we get to see a first-hand look at the in-game fight. The Flamelurker looks just as menacing as it did in the cinematic, and will surely provide a challenge for players.

Previously the Playstation Blog revealed the character creation for Demon’s Souls with some screenshots, showing incredible detail when it comes to making your own character. While you can opt for one of the preset appearances, there is a lot to really make your character your own. Gavin Moore, creative director at SIE Worldwide Studios External Development shares that they “wanted the limits of that personal expression to go far beyond just what weapons or armor you’ve equipped”.

Recently Bluepoint released new details about the changes and additions to the Demon’s Souls Remake, this included Fractured Mode, carry capacity, omnidirectional moves and more. There was also the announcement of the Demon’s Souls soundtrack which will be releasing on November 26th, a re-recorded version of the original, complete with orchestra and choir.

Demon’s Souls Remake will launch alongside Playstation 5 on November 12th. Don’t forget to tune in to our Twitch channel come launch date as we’ll be streaming it on our channel and expect more Demon’s Souls content on Fextralife.
